recently, rvca's artist network program has been established as a showcase of accomplished (as well as unknown) modern artists creating and inspiring in their own communities, as well as internationally with collections within the rvca family. season after season rvca impresses with their ultra soft graphic tees featuring prints by artists george thompson and ben horton, and the perfectly cut leo romero pants fly off the racks as quickly as we can unpack them.

not as much a fashion brand as a modern lifestyle brand, the rvca spring 2010 collection (for men & women) is now available in store at still life.

nudie jeans have definitely crossed the line from the fringe to the mainstream.  from the legs of cynics smoking outside the dive bar hosting your least known next great dj, to the legs of jay-z and josh homme.  they have however, done it well and without offending their loyal, longtime fans.  some early nudie wearers moved on to lesser known brands, but we find them coming back for their favorite nudie fit.  nudie has kept their loyal customers by never abandoning their ethics and not growing too fast.  still made in italy, still made from japanese or italian denim, still dry, still ethical, still at still life.

there are few lines more sophisticated and comfortable than james perse - his basic tees & tanks have become a permanent fixture at still life year round. his garments wash and wear well, retaining shape & colour for ages and ages. starting out our spring 2010 season james perse is some of the first pieces to arrive in store for us, and we're thrilled. emphasizing elegance and comfort, his seamless blend of luxe and casual create timeless staples for the women of victoria that look great on their own paired casually with jeans, or dressed up with pants & a blazer.

if you're heading away for a mid-winter vacation in warm climates, we've got a two styles of linen drawstring pants and a double layered jersey maxi dress just begging to be taken abroad for some time in the sun. come by 551 johnson street and take home some of the softest pieces we've had in the store in some time.

created by vancouver's jude feller, lily & jae has been a favorite for all of us here since the line debuted in 2007. jude's garments fly out of here faster than we can get it on the shelves (ie: the aw09 wool apron skirt in black, grey AND oatmeal!) and we're always thrilled when we spot boxes arriving through our front doors with her own lily & jae packing tape. her spring/summer 2010 collection is incredible. this will be a fantastic selection of pieces for us to have in the store and its sure to sell through just as quickly as previous seasons. take a quick peek at some of the shots from her lookbook for the collection, and if give us a call (250 386 5655) if you'd like to be on our customer call list to be updated when the pieces arrive in store.

we have a healthy record collection here at still life, and we love when our favorite musicians come by victoria. this year we were lucky enough to catch shows by the friendly and talented cass mccombs and band of horses at the royal theatre (then at smiths & at ferris'!), flying lotus workshopped and lit up element and we kicked off rifflandia 2009 at the alix goolden hall at the hauntingly beautiful timber timbre show and were blown away by the always terrific beach house. and great shows from great acts in our fine city usually result in vinyl record purchases up the road at ditch records.

earlier this month our friends at ditch compiled their annual year end list with a number of our personal favorites finishing with top spots. as the year wraps up we invite everyone to come by the store and let us know what we slept on this year so we can be sure to listen to it hard during the long winter months ahead. bring in some vinyl for us to testdrive or hook your fully loaded ipod up to a pair of wesc headphones and help us discover some new music for the new decade.

megadestroyer's O.G. logo was created by the one and only ryan smith in his grade seven math class. year's later good friends paul higgins and jeff brown created the brand megadestroyer using this logo to brainwash the young and twisted youth of today. heathens like paul higgins, acrow, steve moore, andre pinces, sean coggins, ken diamond, and justin bartlett make for hell on wheels, or at least jersey and leather.... "so fucking metal"

The clearly eastern inspired collection has a boyish layered look of traditional india.  The look is a refreshingly modern and comfortable look for women, with a femininity and playfulness throughout the collection.

ymc is our newest arrival.  this brand has some of the best attention to detail we've seen yet this fall.  "new labor" inspired looks, and affordable pricing makes this brand one of our favorites right now. 

dunderdon started in gothenburg, sweden about 12 years ago as a workwear company.  the company's simple and functional designs crossed over easily to fashion and now produces a complete men's and womens fashion line.  sticking true to their roots, the true workwear line is still produced, but not available in boutiques... here are a few of the looks available at still life.

Fall 2009 has been amazing at Still Life! The weather in our hometown Victoria, BC has been absolutely incredible with sunshine almost every day since the first day of the season. We're dressing our girls up in skirts with tights to fight that cooler morning air, and the guys have been snatching up the new flannels and Raybans to stay right in that afternoon sun.
