still life boutique's second delivery of quiksilver womens fashion for autumn 2010 has arrived just in time for a beautiful victoria weekend. versatile constructions, tough hardware and architectural shapes are layered with raw edges, asymmetry and beautiful imperfections guiding the historic boardwear company in a new direction with their new quiksilver womens (qsw) division. foccussing on the boutique fashion market, qsw marks a logical step for the famed boardwear/apparel giant. for over thirty years quiksilver has maintained their crown as a boardwear company for young men and women surfing around the world - but their consumer has grown up over those same 30 years and now, so has quiksilver.

our second delivery for the reason will take us into the holidays with dressy silks and sequin detailing for that bit of sparkly that shows up so beautifully during november & december. a half dozen qsw styles ranging from dresses and cozy sweaters to zipper-detailed blazers and basic tees are available this weekend in full sizing at still life boutique.

fred perry is a brand that has truly found a real home at still life boutique with our men & boys during our 25+ years in victoria. as sporty as it is british as it is dressy, the brand founded on the back of wimbledon champion fred perry in 1952 fits in as much at the coffee shops & record stores in victoria as it does the soccer pitches and nightclubs. styled and modern, refined and preppy, a brand made to be worn throughout all our countries of the commonwealth, we're happy to have held on to such a fantastic line for so many years.

really excited today to unload a nice new cut of the classic nudie jean thin finn into still life. easily our number one nudie style on the men's side of the shop, the thin finn is a tight fitting nudie with an extra low yoke and normal waist. the silhouette is similar to the 50’s carrot shape with the tight and narrow leg openingand a zip fly. in the past we've offered the thin finn in the classic dry stretch, a washed out clean steel and of course coated black, grey & ultra indigo.

this season we're offering the nudie jeans thin finn organic dry ecru embo: a 10.75oz, 100% organic cotton denim dyed pure indigo with nudie orange threads allover except for the back pocket embo which is ecru (the natural colour of cotton, closer to a white), 98% cotton, 2% lycra, made in italy.

rick klotz started freshjive in 1989 while completing art school in los angeles, california. influenced by skate, snow, surf, early 80s LA punk and late 80s rap. seeing a void within the skate/surf fashion world in california, klotz started freshjive, "figuring it out along the way". move ahead some 20 years and freshjive is a staple amongst the modern american skate/surf/hiphop scene offering a full line of garments season after season.

starting this fall a new "de-branded" freshjive hits the racks at still life for the boys. no longer using their brand logo or name on any of their product, including all labelling and t-shirt designs, rick klotz & the freshjive crew have noticably removed any allusion to the freshjive name from anywhere on any products continuing forward. from klotz, "since i started freshjive, i have had a personal conflict with this business of 'branding'... i am in the business of promoting the company brand yet personally i am not interested in items for the brand name. it's a bit of a quagmire with me because i hate the culture of promoting a brand yet i enjoy designing clothes and tee shirt designs."

freshjive's autumn 2010 collection is a nice, tight offering to start out their relationship with still life. slick monochromatic designs in black, grey, gunmetal & olive merchandise well together and use of modern style trends (chambray shirting/scarves, contrast shirting) result in a clean, well-produced, on point brand for us to move through autumn with. freshjive de-branded is now available at still life boutique.

straight backs are happy backs, as such the fjällräven kånken backpack was launched in 1978 to spare the backs of swedish school children. back problems had begun to appear in increasingly younger age groups and shoulder bags were popular across the european nation. with many simple, clear functions, the kånken soon became a common sight at pre-schools and nature schools around sweden. the idea of using a backpack quickly spread, as did the kånken and it is just as popular today being and an excellent choice for school, outings or biking to work. made out of durable, lightweight vinylon f the kånken has a large main compartment with a large opening makes it easy to put in/take out items, two side pockets and a zippered pocket in the front, handle at the top, narrow, supple shoulder straps, sitting pad in the pocket in the back and the fjällräven artic fox logo that doubles as a reflector.

we've watched as these ultra-practical swedish bags have been snapped up by all types of folks downtown at still life boutiqe - from young kids heading to their first day of school and university friends finally heading (back) to school to downtown commuters for work and outdoor explorers. last weekend during rifflandia jordan got caught in a torrential downpour with tommy guerrero and our friend aaron from the sentimentals and stored all his camera gear & recording equipment in his burnt red kånken and everything came out dry as it went in. we're especially excited with this delivery of the bags to see the very first arrival of both the black and purple kånkens (two colours we've never before had instore).

the native shoes fitzsimmons has arrived at still life boutique in victoria, bc and we couldn't be more excited. this has been easily the most anticipated arrival for fall 2010 with phonecalls daily from across the country with people inquiring about their expected arrival, what colours, what sizes, etc.

here's the info: we just received the fitzsimmons from native shoes in store in the following colourways: academy blue, bottle cap gray, zucchini green & trail brown. they're all sick modern colours from what has become the most modern footwear brand in the game. the fitzsimmons is a throwback 70s street-hiker laceup boot with a neoprene 'socky' insert that can be worn barefoot or with a sock and then simple rinsed out afterwards to keep tidy. wear these things oceanside, lakeside, trailside, puddleside, poolside, barside, patioside or gardenside - THEY'RE AMAZING.

we don't expect them to last very long, though we have additional drops coming soon (and yes, there will be full sizing for our girls coming very very soon, keep checking and keep it lite!)
