Last month we had the lovely opportunity to meet Peter and Juwels of Pollen Arts in Los Angeles while we were viewing lines and picking up brands for the stores. Their incredibly special range of 100% Natural Handcrafted Beeswax Candles blew us away - we wrote an immediate order and patiently awaited its arrival at Still Life For Him & For Her... This weekend a very special, delicate little package with the warm notes of pollen and beeswax floated through our doors with dozens and dozens (and dozens) of their enchanting candles safely nestled inside.

We've sold candles that we've loved at Still Life in the past, we've done fantastically with a few Made in America brands in particular, but the creativity and simplicity in Peter & Juwels' Pollen Arts candle range is unmatched and we're trying to resist the temptation to not take each & every one home for ourselves. Pollen Arts offers antique bottle-shaped beeswax candles made by hand, with love, over a tiny stove in Peter & Juwels' gorgeously renovated 1975 Winnebago Chieftan parked wherever they lay their heads in and around Arizona. Making their stunning candles with beeswax is only natural for the pair: honey bees produce an organic, smokeless, ionizing, sweet smelling fuel perfect for small-batch candles. Beeswax burns longer and brighter than any other wax, and these days with millions of bees falling victim to Colony Collapse Disorder, they find it very important to employ as many bees as possible.

handmade in new york, land by land candles are the newest addition to our highly popular sundries collection at still life. in early 2009, japanese-born, new york-based friends kanoko mizuo and tomoyo kamio collaborated on a small atelier. one part hair salon, the space was soon filled with sundry things they liked in common. using only all-natural fragrances, pure essential oils, and cotton wicks, they began working on a line of candle scents tailored to men. after a strong response from both men and women, they began blending uncommon floral compositions with masculine touches of musk and sandalwood.
