For Him: Otter Wax Spring 2012
Lots of excitement at the shop today as we happily welcome Otter Wax to Still Life For Him. After the Portland based brand, and its founder Chris Chase, won us over this past buying season when we met and sampled the product on the road, we've eagerly awaited our order to arrive. Chris began formulating Otter Wax several years ago after having troubles finding fabric wax to treat an oiled-cloth raincoat that wasn't paraffin based (a petroleum by-product). Beginning in his kitchen, Chris set about the formulation of an all-natural alternative to waxing fabrics with petroleum-based products. After an extensive period of development, Otter Wax Heavy Duty Fabric Was was born as the only all-natural way to waterproof fabrics without using any synthetic, artificial or toxic ingredients. His Otter Wax product line has now grown to include an all-natural line of leather care products including Saddle Soap Leather Cleanser, Leather Salve Conditioning Treatment, and Leather Oil Shine Serum - all available now at Still Life For Him.
All Otter Wax products are handmade in Portland, Oregon using only the highest quality, all-natural ingredients. Don't worry, none of the products contain actual otters… They're a source of inspiration, not an ingredient. The only animal by-products utilized are beeswax and lanolin, both products humanely harvested without harming animals. Currently available Otter Wax products at Still Life For Him include:
- Original Formula Heavy Duty Fabric Wax: Offering long-lasting water repellency for canvas, denim, and more this fabric wax contains only all-natural ingredients from renewable sources. Otter Wax is formulated to be both highly effective and environmentally friendly. The no-mess application means you can easily apply directly onto fabrics at home or on the go.
- Shea Butter & Flaxseed Oil Leather Salve: To restore suppleness, shine, and water repellency to leather goods. Otter Wax Leather Salve is made using a proprietary blend of all-natural waxes, essential oils (lemongrass and cedar wood), moisturizing shea butter and flaxseed oil. The Leather Salve is super easy to use, applied with a cloth directly to leather, absorbing into the leather in 10 minutes, leaving a thin film of white wax on the surface of your leather. After the leather has absorbed the oils and moisturizing butters from the salve, the thin film of wax can be buffed to a shine, helping to seal in the nourishing oils while providing a protective coating against dirt, grime, water, and sun damage.
- Flaxseed Oil & Vitamin-E Leather Shine Serum: This all-natural formula is designed to restore the natural shine to your leather while waterproofing and conditioning. Otter Wax Shine Serum utilizes a base of flaxseed oil that gives a deep shine, while a special blend of vitamin-e and mixed tocopherols nourishes, restores, and protects the leather. This Shine Serum is safe to use on any colour or leather and contains no artifical dyes or coloration chemicals.
- Leather Care Sample Pack: The Sampler brings the Three-Part Otter Wax Leather Care approach together, helping to bring old leather back to life. First use the Otter Wax Saddle Soap to gently clean your leather and remove stains. Follow with the Leather Salve to moisturize your leather as it restores oils, revives suppleness, and repairs cracking from dehydration. Lastly, the Leather Oil is a quick way to revive the natural shine of your leather with a deep-conditioning combination of flaxseed oil, vitamin-e, and a proprietary blend of all-natural essential oils. The Leather Care Sampler comes in a custom burlap sack, with one of each: Saddle Soap Tin, Leather Salve Tin & Leather Oil Bottle.
- Standard Essentials Kit: This limited edition (only 100 were made) kit has just about everything one needs to take care of clothing and accessories from head to toe. In keeping with the Otter Wax focus of making sustainable, all-natural, and environmentally-friendly products, the Standard Essentials Kit comes beautifully packaged in a locally handcrafted box made from reclaimed Douglas Fir lumber with graphics screen printed locally in Portland. The Standard Essentials Kit contains: Heavy Duty Fabric Wax (x2), Canvas Cleaner (x1), Saddle Soap (x2), Leather Salve (x2) and Leather Oil (x1)
