In the seven months since we received our first autumn 2011 delivery from San Francisco's Tellason Denim we have tirelessly sold through stock, having to write countless immediate re-orders. The brand, with almost zero traditional advertising to speak of has won over men at Still Life For Him based entirely on the simplicity of their design, quality of the denim production and strength of the finish on the jean. With every componant on a pair of Tellason Denim jeans constructed in the United States, the three styles and one shirt from the young denim brand that we stock at the store truly make Tellason the Great American Denim option at Still Life For Him.

Working closely with Tony Patella and Pete Searson (read: tella-son) we've found our perfect denim/fit combinations to be the Ladbroke Grove Slim Tapered Jean in Cone Mills 12.5oz Selvedge Denim, the John Graham Mellor Slim Straight Jean in Cone Mills 14.75 Selvedge Denim and the Ankara Straight Leg Jean in Cone Mills 12.5oz Selvedge Denim - all of which have been restocked in a full size run (28 waist through 38 waist) for Victoria, BC at Still Life For Him. Restocked again for spring 2012 we've also received the Topper Denim Shirt in Cone Mills 6.5oz Raw Denim (sizes small through double extra large).

Stay tuned to our Blog, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr through this Spring 2012 season for a special heads-up on upcoming (extremely) limited runs of made in America styles from Tellason Denim available at Still Life For Him...

For Him: Tellason Denim Autumn 2011

Tony Patella, who launched Tellason Denim with his longtime friend and business partner Pete Searson (hence “Tellason”), says his goal is to “make the best product possible and put it in the best stores possible.” To achieve that, the duo produce their entire range in San Francisco, the birthplace of American denim. “Denim is a product that needs to be made artisanally,” he says. “San Francisco is where denim should be made.” Keeping production local isn’t the only area in which Patella and Searson refuse to compromise. From sourcing denim from Cone Mills' White Oak plant in Greensboro, North Carolina, to using leather patches made by Portland, Oregon's Tanner Goods, to examining every finished pair by hand, the two do it all entirely on their own terms.

The men's retail fashion industry is rife with consumer denim options and not exactly hurting for another selvedge, heavy denim brand clocking in at price that makes you check your bank balance before you check your waist size. But with Tellason Denim offering United States production on every single part of their jeans and quality assurance & fits that aren't easily replicated, they're putting as much energy, focus and vision into the $195 price tag a pair of Tellason Denim comes with as they possibly can. We are thrilled to begin working with a brand with such focus and determination, attention to simplicity and quality control.

Now available at Still Life For Him, Tellason Denim has arrived in three styles:

  • 101.02 Ladbroke Grove / Slim Tapered Jean / Cone Mills White Oak 12.5 oz Selvedge Denim. A slim tapered jean made from a limited roll of White Oak Cone Mills white selvedge denim. Named after the legendary west London area, Ladbroke Grove 12.5 oz draws some inspiration from the slim, tapered styles seen through the late 1960s and 1970s in the area.
  • 1977.03 John Graham Mellor / Slim Straight / Cone Mills White Oak 14.75 oz Selvedge Denim. Named in homage to the legendary Clash guitarist Joe Strummer (real name John Graham Mellor) this is a slim straight fit with ultra simple dark ecru stitching on the back pocket and down the mid-thigh. Made from a 14.75 White Oak Cone Mills white selvedge denim.
  • 10012.02 Ankara / Straight Leg / Cone Mills White Oak 12.5oz Selvedge Denim. A straight-leg five pocket jean with antiqued button fly and hardware, double-thick back pocket lining for durability. As with all Tellason denim, heavy-duty selvedge White Oak Cone Mills denim produced in San Francisco with leather back patch by Tanner Goods in Portland, OR.

as much as all of us at still life absolutely adore victoria, british columbia - every once and a while work or play takes us out of the garden city. before heading to new york last year, matt & kim packed their lists made of insider must-visit spots that they've acquired over the years. miriam & jordan compiled a notebook's worth of secret spots all over portland, oregon last summer during their trip down across the border. thankfully, just in time for jordan, matt & kim's trip down to los angeles, we've received our first batch of eat.shop guides for a half dozen of our favorite cities around north america (including los angeles, new york & portland).

the eat.shop guides focus on cities both big and obvious (nyc and los angeles) and small and not-so-obvious (austin and portland). the folks publishing the eat.shop guides love  one-of-a-kind, worth going out of the way to visit, independently owned local businesses. though it’s a uniquely american sentiment to think bigger is better, they believe smaller is special—and they’ve dedicated an entire series of city guides to this premise. to help you navigate your way through hundreds of unique, authentic, local businesses that range from eye popping and brand new to deeply patinaed and way off the beaten path, we've begun with carrying the eat.shop guides for the following cities: austin, texas, los angeles, california, montreal, quebec, new york city, new york, portland, oregon, san francisco, california, seattle, washington & vancouver, british columbia.
