our second delivery of vancouver's lily & jae arrived at still life boutique this morning. jude feller's autumn collection (all designed & produced in vancouver, bc) is, simply put: stunning.
this second drop for fall is heavy on the woodsy/90s colour palette (burgundy, brown, greens, navy). burgundy & browns make up a super sweet boyfriend blazer, a selection of gorgeous merlot silk camis & shirts, the secret skirt available in a retro beige print and the undeniable british millerain waxed cotton olivia raincoat in a rich caramel colourway.
this selection of lily & jae will help you greet autumn 2010 at the front steps, all dressed up and ready for the winds to change. see you soon at still life boutique.
OH-MY-GOODNESS! we are happy to announce the much-anticipated arrival of native shoes autumn/winter 2010 to still life boutique!
these injection-molded eva shoes were the most talked/tweeted/buzzed about brand in las vegas last week when matt, kim & jordan hit the tradeshows & streets. desired & designed in vancouver our good friend damian has hit the nail on the head by turning classic modern footwear silhouettes into the perfect west coast shoe. spring/summer 2010 was the first season native shoes were available anywhere, and after blowing up online across north america, europe and japan, they weren't available anywhere!
native shoe's motto is keep it lite and that's exactly what they're doing moving forward with their second season. offering new colourways for their instant-classic styles the jefferson, the miller and the corrado, the name of the game with native shoes is colour. autumn/winter 2010 sees native shoes introduce a couple of brand new styles including the much-hyped fitzsimmons street-hiker boot! this thing is sick: impossibly-light eva molded to replicate the classic urban hikers of the 1970's these boots come laced up with a neoprine socky in the boot for total water-wearability.
easy to walk, beachcomb, bike or swim with, native shoes were made for coastal climates like victoria & vancouver, so come down to still life boutique this weekend during the johnson st fest and keep it lite with native shoes for fall.
sophisticated and gentle, the lily + jae autumn/winter 2010 collection tells a story through colour, texture and shape. from silken dresses to cashmere coats, this collection is suffused with warm 90s palette of burgundy, grey, navy, black and brown. fabrics are natural, yet versatile, and rich in both content and texture – from custom printed silk to cheek-soft cashmere. shapes are self-assured: timeless pieces with a hint of trend. dresses and coats are inspired by vintage silhouettes, subtle nods to the fashions of our parents and our own childhoods. boy-shaped shirting benefits from a touch of wool, for warmth. cropped tops and skirts become cozy when layered with long johns or blazers.
lily + jae continues to grow stylistically, without compromising their signature feminine feel with masculine elements. their fall/winter offering is a confident collection with earthy appeal and a complete array of looks.
there are few collections at still life that wear as well on as many girls as vancouver's lily + jae. matt & kim spent the week in vancouver viewing spring 2011 merchandise, and came home with the first big box of autumn/winter 2010 lily + jae for our victoria girls! we've started out strong with a handful of looks working with black & white pairings of of stripes and microprints. silk tops we saw move through the store quick this spring are back with autumnal details and our first fall coat has arrived in the form of the gorgeous olivia hooded rain coat in 100% waterproof, heavy-duty british millerain cotton. we've redressed the windows and are open late still wednesdays, thursdays & fridays until 8pm for you to come down and check out how fall is shaping up in store.
against the comforting, neutral slate of the wilderness, she defines herself. in the cool snow, she revisits who she has been. among soft fir branches, she becomes who she will be.
this season is about those times when we abandon what we’re told we should do, and instead we do what we feel. we take the time alone. we retreat. we step boldly into a quiet place. we look at ourselves in a clear mirror or a lake, and we confront our fears and our histories. we emerge more whole. we embrace the present.

more than any previous collection, autumn/winter 2010 contains touches of regionalism – warm wool-cashmere blends are made for the canadian climate. and then there’s the aptly named hudson coat, and the inclusion of a blanket in the collection.

with temperatures expected to soar up to 21°C over the weekend, we have a hard time finding any reason to leave the southern island for the mainland (ferry line-ups, bus rides, blaaah). but if you simply must visit the mainland and end up in vancouver's mt pleasant neighbourhood we must insist you stop by mr. lee's general store & haberdashery for a shop visit unlike any you've ever experienced.
the general store is a loving collaboration developed by our good friends dustin fishbook, meghan paterson and jeff petry. a faithful extension of the authentic belmont barber shop located below, mr. lee's has provided an experience as well as quality crafted goods to the gentlemen of vancouver since this past january. mr. lee’s has a curated selection of accessories, clothing and accompaniments that we feel are noteworthy, rare and purposeful, and above all else special. in addition they carry a template of product that was sold by general stores of the 1930’s &40’s: specialty foods, hard goods, apothecary, magazines, fine paper products, flowers and notions. a one-stop shop to heal all your hankerings and make life a little sweeter.
there is no place like mr. lee's in victoria, vancouver or even the rest of british columbia! they've become a must-visit destination for all of us at still life whenever we're in vancouver, not just for the incredible variety of products available but for the experience and fine local eating, drinking & shopping recomendations they offer to visitors of their fair city. so if you're in vancouver this weekend pop by mr. lee's general store & haberdashery for some quality goods for the great outdoors, get yourself a hot shave & a trim from the belmont barbershop downstairs and get out in the sun! still life loves mr. lee's.
ken diamond consists of our vancouver friends ken diamond and jolene eeuwes. ken began to work with leather in the late 90's and established ken diamond in 2003. jolene has a background in couture fashion and joined the company in 2007. together the pair creates simple, high-quality leather goods with classic designs, made entirely by hand in their vancouver studio. they view leatherwork is a dying art, and work tirelessly at keeping the traditional craft alive while using modern techniques to keep their works simple and minimal.
we are very excited to finally offer ken diamond pieces at still life. the only brand worth cutting into the well loved still life front desk for. these pieces need to be seen, so come down and check out in the new display. custom orders are available on a limited basis.
